It started with a conversation about Kit Williams's brilliant book Masquerade. You may remember the book with its codes revealing the location of a buried treasure. Our conversation moved onto Indiana Jones's Grail Diary, the great myths and the growing interest in codes and ciphers. And then the epiphany... imagine instead of reading a book like the 'Da Vinci Code', you could actually play it; where you would become immersed in a storyline that evolves as you solve clues and unearth the mystery. A game where the first person to solve the mystery wins a substantial prize.

We wanted to create a game where; puzzle lovers would enjoy the intricate codes and ciphers, history lovers would enjoy learning about many fascinating aspects of medieval Europe and mystery lovers would enjoy how the game reveals an historic conspiracy hidden in the history books and works of William Shakespeare. Importantly this had to be a game played virtually across the web and through real-life books and manuscripts sent to you through the post.

Untopia links history with entertainment through immersive online and offline experiences. We believe that by creating compelling stories around historical places, people and events, we can get all ages and backgrounds to engage with and enjoy history. Maybe by playing the games we produce people will learn a little more about fascinating historical characters and events and, perhaps, become more active in their support of places of outstanding historic or natural interest.

We've got a lot of pleasure from crafting this first mystery and we hope you enjoy solving it.
